An Overview of Western Philosophy as Unification Thought
From Thales to Habermas, we'll look at the main implications.
Reinterpretation from a Modern Perspective

What does philosophy mean to us living in the artificial intelligence (AI) era? Looking at the essential questions of life, a book that outlined the history of Western philosophy for 2,600 years, from Thales to Habermas, came out. Reading Western Philosophy with Unification Thought is interesting in that it deals with major scenes in the history of Western philosophy from the perspective of Unification Thought. The idea of unification is a systematic idea of the words of Moon Seon-myeong and Hanhak, the founders of the World Peaceful Unification Family Union, and reveals the nature of God and presents standards for solving real problems.

The philosophers covered in this book are interpreted from the perspective of unified thought, Descartes' 'I think. Therefore, the perspective of the unification idea, which raises the question of 'Why should I think?' about the proposition 'I exist', adds to the uniqueness of the book.

The author compiled articles published in a monthly magazine over three years under the theme of "The History of Western Philosophy as a Principle of Unification" with the aspiration to convey the core of philosophical history that has explored truth along with religion to readers in an easy-to-understand manner. What are a total of six representative philosophical questions in the book, namely existence? What is the original character of man? What does it mean to know? What is religion? What is ethics? How should I look at the world? We split the chapter with our backs.

This book proposes a journey to reflect on the meaning of Western philosophy history along with the idea of unification. Regardless of whether you are a reader who has encountered unification ideology to some extent, a reader who is interested in philosophy, or a reader who wants to give meaning to life, I look forward to understanding Western philosophy from a new perspective and discovering its true meaning through this book.

in the book

From the perspective of unification ideology, Socrates' argument is not just optimistic logic. According to Socrates, all human beings have an eros for true knowledge. Even in the idea of unification, true knowledge does not simply refer to the accumulation of objective information. At the root of human nature's intellectual desire lies God's heart to share joy by realizing love. Therefore, the true knowledge referred to in the unification ideology is 'mental knowledge' that combines subjectivity and objectivity. Truth and love have an inseparable relationship, and the desire for love must be accompanied by practice, so it can be seen that knowing and practicing are inherently "united" as Socrates said, because it is human nature that seeks truth with the motivation of living. (Page 53)

Aquinas' theology overlooks the content of human responsibility sharing. How nice it would be if everything could be solved by God's grace. In history, many theologians and philosophers have made different arguments about the relationship between faith and reason, but the only argument that humans should sublimate faith and reason into one path rather than two paths through the division of responsibility is the idea of unification. (Page 77)

To see that the unique truth, beauty, and desire to pursue good that only humans have stems from a material environment that lacks, creates a contradiction that reduces human spirituality (靈), which unfolds the endless world of consciousness, to finite matter. The fact that human self-consciousness can project God beyond the finite real world can be evidence that reveals the invisible existence of God, contrary to Feuerbach's conclusion. As the relationship between harmony and unification centered on love is embodied in our lives, the appearance of God at the root of it will become clearer. (Page 118)

It's love after all. Where can I have the power to give everything to the other and obey? The "true love" of the idea of unification is the ultimate foundation for sustaining existence, and today we demand infinite love responsibility to share with their suffering without turning a blind eye to any of the 8 billion human beings. When we revere each other as infinite and transcendent beings that resemble God and arouse the breath of love, we will be able to experience God, the body of true love, in our relationship. Publisher's review
the impact of philosophy on life

Philosophy deals with fundamental questions about existence, humans, the world, and even the way we live. As we agonize, agonize, and understand these questions, we can broaden our perspective on the world. In addition, if you think deeply through philosophy, you can develop clear and logical thinking skills. And if you keep asking questions about the meaning, value, purpose, etc. of life, it helps us set the direction and goals of our lives, and you gain a deep understanding of life. Contrary to the perception that philosophy is difficult, it can have a big impact on our lives.

A New Perspective on Western Philosophy

There are countless books on Western philosophy. Even if you go to a bookstore and look at the philosophy book section, more than half of the books contain content about Western philosophy. That's why various approaches have been proposed to understand Western philosophy, and various interpretations have emerged accordingly. This book contains an interpretation of Western philosophy and philosophers from the perspective of unified thought.
The idea of unification is an ideological systematization of the words of Moon Sun-myung and Hanhak, the founder of the World Peaceful Unification Family Union, and is referred to as the Duik ideology (翼思想) or Godism. It is an idea that presents a standard for solving real problems by revealing the attributes of God, the root cause of this world, and the principles of this world created to resemble God.

A New Journey with Unification Thought

This book contains an interpretation of the major scenes of Western philosophy from Tales to Habermas in 2,600 years from the standpoint of unified thought. It will be a great opportunity to see what the philosophies of Plato, Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, Descartes, Hegel, Kirkegaard, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Derrida, Wittgenstein, Habermas, etc. interpreted from the new perspective of unified thought mean. Through this book, I hope you will have a time to appreciate the history of Western philosophy along with the idea of unification.
